About David & Rhonda

April 18, 2007

It was the Spring of 2006 that we first heard about the opportunity of working in Baku, Azerbaijan.  Baku is a place that many people don’t know exists but David knew it existed because on one of his trips to Kyrgystan, his plane touched down in Baku to re-fuel.  Before this, he had not known about this place.  Isn’t it neat the way God works–a short little touch down and a connection was made.

We learned of this opportunity on a web-site that was advertising the need for a pastor to come and work with an International, Multi-Denominational group of people.  David first asked me what I thought of pursuing this opportunity and my immediate response was, “Go for it!!!!”  My heart did a little leap as fear struck me in thinking of the implications that this might mean for our family.

To make a very long story short–Here we are in this wonderful country!  Azerbaijan is made up of so many great people that we have yet to meet.  We have been integrated into a great church with people from all over the world.  The church is vibrant with many young families, youth and young adults.  There is so much potential here and we are happy to be a part of what God wants to do in this place.

Getting settled has been challenging and fun!!!  Learning where to shop, what to buy, and what products can be used to resemble products from home have been interesting.   Cooking has been a challenge in the sense that it is difficult to always find the ingredients needed for recipes.  There has always had to be a plan A, plan B, and a plan C & D when we have been having company because what was in one store one day, may not be there the next.  Sometimes five stores do not have  the ingredients  needed.   We are learning to stock up when we see items we use regularly.

God has our family on a journey.  From the Spring of 2006 until today, we are trusting Him to carry us through and use our lives for His purposes.

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future”.

This scripture is not just for the Fortune family but for each person who puts their trust in God.

Blessings to you.

So nice to see your picture and read all the things happening across the world. I know that both are a blessing to the people in your church. Rhonda I am sure you still can make wonderful meals for your family. My family and I are missing you all greatly.

Someday Lord willing we can come and experience Baku for ourselves.

    Love Kim

    Rhonda:

This is in poor lieu of the phone call I would have made yesterday, if I had a place to call.

Hi, all! Check your website all the time and look forward to new updates about your family and ministry in Baku (’course when there are no new updates I go to our favourite resource…BAF-Y!) Kristen is especially interested in all that is going on as she prays for you guys every night! I have thought of you all oftern wondering how God faithfulness has been shown to you. Richard, I and the boys would like to wish you all a merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! We all went to surprise my parents, in Calgary, on Christmas Eve - it was fantastic! The Lord gave us a wonderful time with all extended family there. Rhonda you unfortunately/fortunately will miss my big 40th Bday this year - I was so hoping to be roasted I mean toasted by you in some painful way! We are praying for you and miss you all.

Dear Rhonda, David and the crew,

We are missing you all very much. Life on Michener Cres is not as lively without the Fortune children (and adults), noone makes us homemade donuts.

I have had a difficult time with communicating out with email or other… my goal is to get better with this…Did I mention I don’t like my computer.
I heard through the friend vine that there will be a trip back to Canada this summer…please let me know details and if there is time for a Rodrigues visit…Have truck will travel…
Love, hugs and metal smiles from our home to yours,
    Peace…

    David,
Just spoke with KGT (asking about the flu clinics) and got this website address from Joyce. I didn’t recognize anyone there, but I am happy to have found you and your family - and doing so well. You look wonderful and you seem to be really settled in and making such a difference.
I am sure to come back and check in on what’s up.
All is well with me in Kitchener.
    God bless, Jill
